I am totally besotted with the sound of rhythmic handclaps. Born and raised in Namibia, I am constantly exposed to handclaps being used as a tool to demonstrate happiness and excitement, to express deep deep sorrow and heartbreak and to play out all possible emotions inbetween! The sound of shuffling-thumping feet……. the stop-start of the claps – it is mesmerizing and SUCH an inspiration if you are in love with Sounds.
In our familiar spot on new year’s eve: the Namib Desert on the one side, the Atlantic Ocean on the other, I listened to the little explosive sounds of the wood in the fire and the seagulls screaching and begging for scraps. The crashing waves roll and tumble the sea-pebbles into a rumbling sound that resonates in my mind as old famliar handclaps!
At that moment I realized that Sounds are more addictive than Coffee. I cannot get enough of it, cannot live without it – must explore more of it! For me, this year is going to be The Year of the Celebration of Sounds!
My wish for everybody is – find your passion and celebrate it fully this year!! 2011 will be a GREAT year for us all!
